Halton students celebrate the life of Lucy Maud Montgomery

Dec 01, 2021

Thanks to a $2,500 grant from District 15 Halton, elementary school students across Halton Region will receive a free copy of the children’s book Luck Moves to Norval, written by John Mark Rowe. The book will be distributed by the L.M. Montgomery Museum & Literary Centre Norval. It tells the story of author Lucy Maud Montgomery’s move to the community, told through the eyes of her favourite cat, Luck. Montgomery is best known for a series of novels beginning in 1908 with Anne of Green Gables. Besides including the book, the education kits will encourage the students to write postcards to the museum, and will promote the Garden of the Senses in Norval (which school groups visit), the former Presbyterian Manse where Montgomery lived, the village of Norval, and the Credit River Valley Trail.

The District 15 funding is part of RTOERO’s annual Project – Service to Others (PSTO). Districts apply for individual projects (education-related or other community initiatives) that support a local, national or international program. Up to $4,000 per project is available.
